Charlie Sheen's ex-wife Brooke Mueller is charged with intent to distribute drugs and assault at celebrity skiing getaway.Charlie Sheen's ex-wife Brooke Mueller has been charged with intent to distribute drugs and assault.

She was charged by police after being arrested and found in possession of a large amount of cocaine in the upmarket skiing resort town of Aspen in Colorado.

The tiny city is a popular getaway for celebrities who enjoy the outdoors, with the likes of her shamed former husband, Goldie Hawn and Elle Macpherson all regular visitors.

The 34-year-old's troubles started when a woman contacted police and accused her of assault just after 11.30pm last night.

A spokesman for the City of Aspen and Pitkin County Police said: 'Officers with the Aspen Police Department were on a routine walk through when they contacted a woman who reported an assault which had taken place.

The woman identified Brooke Mueller as the aggressor.'

A search was then launched and the reality star was tracked down to the nearby Escobar nightclub after midnight, where she was arrested.

The police spokesman said: 'Mueller was arrested and charged with assault in the third degree (class one misdemeanor) and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute (class four felony).

While the assault charge is a less serious misdemenour case, the drugs charges could see the reality star could face up to six years in jail if found guilty.

A police spokesman added: 'When someone is found to have more than a certain amount of the drug they are charged with intent to distribute.'

Mueller posted bond of $11,000 and has been released, however she must return for a District Court hearing on December 19.

The MailOnline contacted her representatives for comment, but have yet to receive a response.

A source close to Brooke told People magazine that she can't 'stay sober on her own.'

'Maybe this [arrest] will force her to go into a treatment center for a long stay. Thirty-day rehabs won't work for her.'

Mueller only finished a 45-day rehab program to rid herself of her drug and drink problems in July.

And this is not the first time she has been in trouble with the law.

In 1996 she was charged with drink driving and property damage after she crashing her car into a road sign, but the case was ultimately dropped

She was arrested again in 2001 for cocaine possession, and the charges were dropped again after tests revealed she had no drugs in her system.

The Strictly Sexual actress married Platoon star Sheen in May 2008, and gave birth to their twin sons Max and Bob in 2009.
