Miss India detained at airport. Mumbai: Miss India Earth 2011 Hasleen Kaur was detained at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on Wednesday night for allegedly carrying branded purses and cosmetics worth Rs. 1.9 lakh without declaring them.

According to Custom officials, Superintendent of Customs Ashok Pandit intercepted Kaur, who had arrived at the airport from Thailand on Wednesday night.

The officials revealed that Hasleen Kaur was carrying branded purses and cosmetics, which she hadn't declared. When the officials approached her and stated that they intended to check the goods, she told them that the purses she was carrying were local products.

Panda Cub Sees First Snow, There was snow at the San Diego Zoo on Thursday morning. Animal care staff arranged a winter wonderland for two of its pandas, Bai Yun and her two-year-old son, Yun Zi. This is the first time that the young panda had ever seen snow. He came out of his bedroom, tested the snow to see if he could walk on it, and then made his way from one corner of the exhibit to the other.

Zoo horticulture staff constructed a 5-foot holiday tree from two types of bamboo – oldhamii and vivax – that was shaped to resemble a pine tree. They used a large block of ice for the tree stand but it was no match for Yun Zi. He approached the tree, swiftly knocked it over and nibbled the slices of fruit and vegetables that were hung as ornaments.

An architecture firm said Friday it “regrets” a bizarre design for two high-rises in Korea reminds people of the twin towers exploding on 9/11.

A mockup shows two soaring skyscrapers connected in the middle by a “pixelated cloud” that evoked the clouds of debris that erupted from the iconic World Trade Center towers after terrorists flew planes into them.

Woman accused of cooking meth at Wal-Mart

Police say a woman gathered meth-making materials in a Wal-Mart store and tried to mix up a batch near the restrooms. Wal-Mart security reportedly called police after they saw Alisha Halfmoon, 45, acting strangely.

When Alisha Halfmoon took a trip to her local Wal-Mart in Tulsa, Oklahoma she was shopping for more than just an easy bake oven. Police arrested the woman inside the Tulsa Wal-Mart on Thursday December 9th on the suspicion that she was creating methamphetamines inside of the store. This ballsy chemist had grabbed actually grabbed the needed chemicals off of the shelf before finding a quiet place to settle down in the store and nonchalantly make her meth.

80-year-old ducks jail _Claire Butcher, an 80-year-old living outside of Boston, has spent the last 45 years providing bread crumbs, dog food, and other snacks to local water fowl.

But officials in Lynn, Massachusetts finally got fed up and slapped the octogenarian with criminal charges, saying that the influx of birds - and the excrement they left behind - was causing a major problem.

After numerous attempts to stop Ms Butcher from feeding the ducks, officials found her guilty of trespassing as well as ignoring a city ban not to feed the animals.

In repeated tests, rats freed another trapped rat in their cage, even when yummy chocolate served as a tempting distraction. Twenty-three of the 30 rats opened the trap by pushing in a door. The rats could have gobbled the chocolate before freeing their partners, but often didn't, choosing to help and share the goodies.

"Basically they told us (freeing another rat) is as important as eating chocolate," said study author Peggy Mason of the University of Chicago. "That's a very striking thing."

The CEO of Deutsche Bank one of the largest banks in the world received a letter bomb Wednesday, but didn't open it. Authorities are focusing on an Italian anarchist group.
German authorities say a piece of mail sent to Deutsche Bank chief Josef Ackermann was a fully functional letter bomb capable of exploding.

German prosecutors and police in Hesse state said in a joint statement that a suspicious letter addressed personally to Ackermann and intercepted at the mail room of the bank's Frankfurt headquarters on Wednesday "involved a fully functional letter bomb."

Teen wakes sleepy bus driver

A quick-thinking 17-year-old jumped up and grasped the hand of a school bus driver just as he started nodding off at the wheel.  Emmanuel Williams said the unnamed driver, an eight-year veteran now on leave, had been driving erratically since he picked up students.

American sentenced to prison for Thai royal insult


BANGKOK (AP) — An American who translated a banned biography of Thailand's king and posted the content online while living in Colorado was sentenced to two and a half years in a Thai prison Thursday for defaming the country's royal family.

The verdict is the latest so-called lese majeste punishment handed down in the Southeast Asian kingdom, which has come under increasing pressure at home and abroad to reform harsh legislation that critics say is an affront to freedom of expression.

The 55-year-old Thai-born American, Joe Gordon, stood calmly with his ankles shackled in an orange prison uniform as the sentence was read out at a Bangkok criminal court.

 Martha Stewart, 70, got a little carried away on her show while teaching the audience how to make homemade sausages. The host and a guest butcher were describing sausage casings  and then Stewart made a funny comparison.

Stewart hosted butcher Ryan Farr on her show to teach audiences how to prepare homemade sausages. As Barr described sausage casings as cleaned out pig intestines, Stewart made some more lighthearted analogies. Holding up a casing, Stewart said "so these are more like rubber balloons actually," before adding, "or condoms."
