'The fighting was intense': Inside Demi and Ashton's Kabbalah counselling sessions.Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher were forced to give up on their marriage when counselling sessions descended into 'intense' rows.

According to a friend of the couple, who spoke to People magazine, the pair were committed to trying to save their relationship.

But the six year union was doomed as Demi, 49, and 33-year-old Ashton discovered they couldn't communicate without fireworks. 'Ashton is unhappy; [Demi]'s unhappy,' a source told the magazine.

'It just got to a point where they had to end it.'

They also claim that the issues that led to the eventual break up went far beyond The Two and a Half Men star's alleged infidelity.

'The fighting could get pretty intense,' another friend added.
Whatever counselling they did was fine for a quick fix but could not get to the heart of the problem.'

In the weeks after the story broke about Kutcher's alleged infidelity with 22-year-old party girl Sara Leal, the couple made apparent attempts to heal their relationship with Kabbalah retreats, including a camping trip to Cachuma Lake near Santa Barbara, California, last month.

They were accompanied by some close friends along with their Kabbalah instructor Yehuda Berg and photos emerged of the pair sat around an outdoor fire.
Other reports, however, suggest that the humiliation of Ashton's alleged affair with Leal on the couple's sixth wedding anniversary was the final nail in the coffin for Demi.

'The final straw with Sara Leal has just been too humiliating for Demi to get over,' a source told Us Weekly.

'She just couldn't look at Ashton the same way and the marriage... completely unravelled.

'She still loves Ashton but feels he went too far and disrespected her and their marriage in a way that can't be taken back.'

'She really tried everything she could to forgive him and accept his apologies,' the source added.
'At the end of the day, the public humiliation and the example she was setting by staying in the marriage just wasn't the right thing for her.'

The couple's relationship hit the headlines in recent months as the rumours swirled about Kutcher's alleged cheating.

The Two And A Half Men star allegedly shared a night of passion with party girl Leal at the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego.

Texas-born Leal sold her story on Kutcher weeks after the fling, which took place on Ashton and Demi's sixth wedding anniversary, September 24.
Leal relived the sordid details of the night - including how they had unprotected sex - detailing that she had cavorted naked with Kutcher and a gaggle of girls in a hot tub in the luxurious hotel suite.

She claimed Kutcher told her he was separated from Demi before the Two And A Half Men star tried to persuade her to have a threesome along with her best friend Marta Borzuchowski - but in the end he settled for a two-hour romp with her.
Speaking of the fling, she told The Sun: 'We had sex twice. Everything felt natural. We were having a good time. He was good, but it wasn't weird or perverted or creepy.

'He had good endurance. We were up for a while. It was about two hours.'

Today it was also revealed that Moore and Kutcher were said to have embarked on an 'open marriage', with suggestions even hinting that Demi is bisexual.

An insider told Star: 'Demi is attracted to women just as much as men, so she didn’t always get all she needed from Ashton.'

Speaking of their agreement to have an open marriage, the source added: 'Everyone in Hollywood knows about their arrangement, but they’ve managed to keep it a secret from the general public.

'She was cool with Ashton having flirtatious relationships too. Somehow they made it work all these years. Both of them were respectful of each other. It was a lot of fun for them.'

However, it all changed when Ashton’s alleged affairs became public and it seems their liberal outlook soon turned sour.

Comedienne Chelsea Handler seemed to echo the sentiments, speaking to Piers Morgan on CNN.

While she admitted she didn't know them well personally, she said: 'I think it's pretty obvious that they've probably had a lot of open marriage type situations.

'I think they probably had a lot of good times with some other women... Clearly they had a lot of threesomes, that led to twosomes without Demi and that leads to a divorce. I absolutely feel for her.'

A further big factor in Demi's decision to divorce, is also said to be her three daughters, Rumer, 23, Scout, 20, and Tallulah, 17.
She wants to set an example for her daughters and this was just something she could not rationalise to them or to herself,' a source told Us Weekly.

When Moore and Kutcher wed, the actor became a stepfather to Moore's girls from her 13-year marriage to fellow actor Bruce Willis.
The actress and Willis divorced in 2000 but remained on good terms.

Moore and Kutcher were even photographed socialising with Willis, and the couple attended his wedding to model-actress Emma Heming in 2009.

Moore said in a statement yesterday that she was filing for divorce with 'great sadness and a heavy heart'.

Hinting at Kutcher's infidelity, she said: 'As a woman, a mother and a wife, there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life'.

Moore added that it's a trying time for her and her family and asked for people to respect her privacy.

Immediately after the announcement, Kutcher posted his own statement on Twitter.

He wrote: 'I will forever cherish the time I spent with Demi.

'Marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world and unfortunately sometimes they fail. Love and Light, AK.'

The pair are still following each other on Twitter in wake of the announcement and Demi's handle remains @mrskutcher - something she may now consider changing.

Despite their dignified statements, Moore is now gearing up to battle it out over their $290million fortune after enduring public humiliated because of his alleged infidelity.
